People who have information about crimes are asked to call 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or use your mobile phone by downloading the "P3 Tips"  app (which can be found in Google Play and the Apple store) or submit an online tip to Crime Line via P3Tips.com. Tips can be provided 24 hours a day. Crime Line also publicizes unsolved crimes and wanted persons through social media and links to the Chesapeake Police Department's website. Tipsters are provided identification numbers and their tips are investigated. If the tip leads to an arrest, the tipster becomes eligible for a reward.

How are Tipsters Kept Anonymous?

Caller ID capability is not attached to the tip telephone line. When a person calls, they are assigned an identification numbers. Tipsters are asked to call back in a few weeks. If the information has led to an arrest, the tipsters are then told how to collect their rewards. Names are never asked! When tipsters collect their rewards they identify themselves by their ID numbers. Every possible step has been taken to assure anonymity throughout the process.
